Education And Protection

Providing age-appropriate education to the underprivileged children across the Sunderban region remained a priority for BSSK. During last 40 years, the organisation has supported over One thousand children to get enrolled and continue their studies. The organisation has provided academic sponsorship to over 500 children from extremely poor economic background. This support has not only saved the lives of such children but also created a demand for education among the parents.

Presently BSSK works closely with government schools and conducts various training for the children and adolescents on basic health care, nutrition, hygiene and environment issues. Apart from these, BSSK also conducts school level awareness programmes on climate change issue and involves students for tree plantation programmes.

BSSK intends to build a system of continued learning and prevent children from being victims of child labour, child marriage and human trafficking. At the same time, the organisation has been connecting the students with social protection schemes of the government and protecting them from vulnerable situations. Further support to these causes would certainly bring in more children under the direct coverage of education programme and help them grow holistically. Backup support during post school hours is needed among the communities for their children to prepare for schools and examinations. BSSK has adequate space to run the backup support programme provided the other expenses are supported from external sources either by any CSR, donor agency or individual sponsorship.
